It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary Marjorie Burke on Friday, August 16, 2024, age 83, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Jesse (McKinnon) Bray.
Mom was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church and loved singing in their choir.
Marjorie is survived by her loving children, Paul (Leslie); Sheldon(Lisa) and Dawn (Travis); her precious grandchildren, Bryan, Candace (Matthew), Bridget, Taylor (Justin), and Jared; her beautiful great granddaughter, Madeline; sister-in-law, Marion Burke as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter Burke; siblings, Lillian MacInnis, Rose “Torchy” Miles, Pauline Joinson, Gertrude Wilson, Gerald, Robert, Josiah Bray and Milton Hall; several nieces and nephews, as well as the extended Burke family.
Marjorie was a beautiful lady, who worked at the Glace Bay Hotel and Bagnell Enterprises. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and loving wife. Her true passion in life was her family and she was the heart of her household. Blessed to have three wonderful children and five beautiful grandchildren. You never spoke to Marjorie without her bragging to you about any of her grandchildren, although all held a special place in her heart, her angel on her shoulder and her right hand was Taylor. She was never too far from her Nan.
Her house was always filled with the sound of laughter, music and aroma of freshly baked goods. She was the glue that held the family together, and her passing leaves a void, that can never be filled. Family was her everything and she was theirs. She was the one they turned to for advice, comfort and love. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room. Her kindness, generosity and selflessness inspired everyone around her to be a better person. She also loved visiting and sneaking treats to her fur babies.
As we say goodbye to this beautiful lady, we take comfort in the memories we shared with her. We remember her bright smile, her infectious laugh and her unwavering love for her family. We will miss her dearly, but we know that she is now reunited with her beloved Walter watching over us from above.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, the staff of the CBRH Emergency Department and Coronary Care Unit. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Hussein, Dr. MacDonald and Dr. Morrison for their continuous care and compassion.
Rest in peace Mom, your love, kindness and legacy will live in our hearts forever.
