It is with broken hearts and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Mary Binder at the Glace Bay General Hospital on 19 April 2022.
Mary was predeceased by her husbands Raymond MacKay and William Binder, as well as her parents Stanley and Mary Josephine (Mary Joe) Wadden, sisters Delores, Patricia Muir, Joyce Ross, and Joan MacGregor and brother Foster (Mary) Wadden.
She is survived by her children: Raylene MacKay, Adele (Owen) MacKenzie, Robert Troy (Lynne) MacKay, Natasha (Jeff) O’Handley, and Michaeil (Keri) MacKay; grandchildren: Sarah (Simon), Lucas, Frederick, Ryan, Jillian, Josh, Olivia, Shelby, Daniel, Chloe, Cohen, and great granddaughter Sophia. She is also survived by sister Donna (John) Moores and brother Gerald/Hubba (Sheila) Wadden, and many extended family members and friends.
Mary was a kind person with a witty, but gentle, soul. She was born in Glace Bay, where she spent most of her life caring for her family, whom she loved dearly. After completing her CNA course, Mary worked for several years at St Rita’s Hospital, and continued showing her compassion for others by caring for numerous seniors throughout the years. Mary’s passions were going to bingo and the Casino, as well as visiting her dear departed friends and family at numerous local graveyards in the area, not necessarily in that order. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and singing in the Coal Town Chorus with her sisters Joyce and Joan. Her special joy was seeing her granddaughter, Sarah, who was always close and supportive throughout the years.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr Ian Doyle and the staff of 3 West at the Glace Bay General Hospital, the VON, and New Waterford Homecare. A special thank you to neighbours Beryl and Jim Clements for their support to Mary throughout the years.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, April 25th at 11am, at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street in Glace Bay, Rev. Myrna MacMullin to officiate. Interment to follow in St. Mary's parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s memory to the Canadian Lung Health Foundation, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice. Memories and condolences can
