It is with sadness that the family of John James MacLeod announce his passing on June 5, 2018 at 69 years of age. He was the son of the late William (Billy) and Hilda MacLeod (nee Pynn).
John worked at the Glace Bay General Hospital and the Cape Breton Hospital as a certified nursing assistant he was also the safety and first aid officer for the Wreck Cove Power Project. John was known for his kind heart and compassionate nature. He loved animals as he and his wife Georgette would never turn away a stray (2 or 4 legged!). He also loved to fish and was a talented carpenter.
He is survived by Georgette (nee Gardiner), his wife of 49 years, children Shannon, Shane (Michelle) and the love of his life, his baby girl Krista, John was also father for 45 years to adopted Gardiner daughters Tammy, who meant more to him than she'll ever know (Dennis Hutchinson), Bev (Denis Gervas), Gina and Rhonda (Steven Ben). Grandchildren Joshua, Jordan, Kaleb, Logan and Erynn and great grandchildren Monroe and Lilly. He will also be missed by his sisters Joyce (Ron Michaelinsky) and Doreen and brother Sheldon. His pet cats, especially Lucas with whom he shared many a bag of potato chips, will sorely miss him as well. Also missed by good friend Felix.
Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his sister Kay and brother Jimmy.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Patten Funeral Home with a funeral service at Newsom United Church in Glace Bay on Monday at 2pm with Rev. Thank you to the staff of New Waterford Heights and Hospital for all the care and compassion these last few years. Also, a huge thank you to EHS for the many, many times he used their services. Sick for most of his adult life he finally has no more pain. Rest in Peace
