Born in Bell Island ,NL, he was the son of the late Eli and Effie Swain. Bill retired from the Canadian Air Force after 15 years service, returning to Sydney to work with security at Sydney Steel Corp. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed going to flea markets and meeting people and he made many good friends there. He enjoyed tinkering with old radios in his shed.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Alda (Leader) Swain, son William (Brenda) Swain, Sydney, step children, Pam Leader, Kim Leader- O’Leary (Chris), both of Glace Bay, and Todd Leader (Alma), Halifax. Bill also leaves behind grandchildren, Ali and Brian Leader, Halifax and Emily O’Leary (Papa’s girl), sister, Ellie King, Carbonear ,brother, Everett ‘Ed’ (Stella) Swain, Carbonear and sister in law, Phyllis Swain, Sudbury,On.,and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents , Bill was predeceased by brothers,Thomas,Richard,sisters, Phyllis Dominic, Mary Crewe and Florence King.
Visitation for Bill will take place on Thursday, September 1,2011 from 1-2 pm at Newsome United Church followed at 2:00 pm by a funeral service with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Cancer Society or Palliative Care would be greatly appreciated.
