The world lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister Barbara MacDonald of Glace Bay on Dec.12/21 at the young age of 68. Barbara was born and raised in the Hub to the late Don and Mary (Martin) Mugford. Barbara was very proud of her roots and reminded everyone that, “only good things come out of there.” Barbara met the love of her life Nonnie at the age of 15 years. Although years later she moved to Caledonia to start her forever life with Nonnie she told him daily, “you might be able to take the girl out of the Hub, but you will never take the Hub out of the girl, and he accepted. Together they raised their 3 beautiful children, their greatest blessings. Barbara was a devoted mother first and foremost; she treasured her children and embraced every moment she shared with them. Barbara’s children always knew how blessed and lucky they were to be raised by such an incredible woman. Barbara’s most proud title in life was “Nanny.” She loved her 5 grandchildren, “more than all the money in the world”. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and they loved her dearly. Barbara would have loved to have been here to meet her sixth grandchild in May, but unfortunately, God needed her more. Barbara was predeceased by her siblings Diane, Johnny, Mike, and Don. Left to mourn is her husband of 46 years John (Nonnie) MacDonald, Daughter Muriel (Scott), Son John (Terri), Daughter Krystal (Corey), her 5 pride and joys Logan, Paige, Caelin, Lia, Bentley, and her unmet grandbaby to come. She also leaves behind her siblings Tony, Mary, Shirley, Norm, and her dear friend Brenda. A funeral service will be held on Thursday Dec.16/21 at 1230 at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. The family would like to thank Brenda for her love and devotion to their mom and they would also like to thank her family Doctor, Dr. James MacLean for his care.
