Art was born in Glace Bay on January 8th, 1929 to the late Richard and Elizabeth Littler. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family; he was predeceased by his four sisters and three brothers.
Art will be missed immeasurably by Margie (Tomiczek), his wife of 73 years. They were blessed with three children Arlene (John) Andrecyk, Nancy Littler ( Logan Duffield) and Blaine (Shelley) Littler. Papa deeply loved his 6 grandchildren, Lynne (Matt) Drover, Mark ( Robyn) Andrecyk, Katherine Murphy, Ted Duffield, Megan Littler and Brett Littler and his 9 great grandchildren.
Art was employed by DEVCO as an electrician and before retirement as a security officer.
For many years, he was a Councillor for Ward 5 in the Town of Glace Bay, serving on multiple committees. In his capacity as Counsellor, he was conscientious and worked hard to meet the needs of his constituents.
Dad was fond of Sunday drives, Mom’s home cooking, and family holidays, especially Christmas. He was a talented Mr Fix-it. He appreciated nature and even in his later years preferred to be outdoors whenever possible. Dad and Mom enjoyed spending time at their bungalow in Marion Bridge and vacationing in Florida.
Dad was a devoted family man. He cherished Margie and the family they built together. He frequently expressed to his family how much he loved each and everyone and how proud he was of them.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor for the wonderful care Dad received.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes, there is no visitation. There will be a private family ceremony. Condolences can be sent by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com
The measure of a good man is how he cares for his wife, family and community. It is beyond doubt that Dad was among the best of good men.
