September 7, 2023. Born at Caledonia Crossing in Glace Bay to Murray
and Margaret (Jobes) Wilton in 1929, she was the last surviving of their ten
children.
In 1950, she married her husband, the late Baxter Clarke. Together they
raised their four children Donna Routledge (deceased), Dave (Margi),
Nancy (Bruce Ring) and Ruth (David McNabb).
Lexie and Baxter were supported in their lives by their many close
connections with family, neighbours and friends and through their
involvement in St Mary's Church.
Alexis was a proud member of the St. Mary’s choir for over 30 years. She
served on the Parish Council and managed many a church supper. When
she wasn’t volunteering she could be found in the kitchen baking treats and
preparing care packages for anyone in her family who might need one.
Lexie is the last surviving member of the McLean Street Neighbourhood
“Club”. The ladies met every Tuesday night for more than 40 years to play
scat and Ramoli and eat sweets. Road trips with her sisters and
sister-in-law or the ladies from the choir were a highlight and an opportunity
to share some fun.
Besides Dave, Nancy and Ruth, Alexis is survived by seven grandchildren
(Dr. Tanya Routledge, Scott Routledge, Colin Clarke, Jillian Cheverie, Tara
White, Cai McNabb and Luke McNabb). She is also survived by 12 great
grandchildren. Alexis was predeceased by her husband Baxter, daughter
Donna, grandson Chris Routledge and son-in-law, Cordell White.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral
Home. A funeral service will be held for Alexis Clarke on Wednesday,
September 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Patten Funeral Home chapel, Rev.
Myrna MacMullin officiating.
