Butch grew up on his family’s farm east of town by Highland School. He went to grade school there and graduated from Minatare High School. He received his bachelors degree from Chadron State College.
Butch married Carol Schaneman, started a family and returned to his farming roots for many years in the Lake Minatare area. They later divorced. His children loved riding in the tractor, helping during harvest and irrigating alongside their dad. He made numerous lifelong friends and acquaintances during this time that he cherished. Many lasting memories were created with his family, friends, brother, sister-in-law and nephews over these years.
His path then changed direction, and he began working at Clean Harbors in Kimball, NE and remained there until he retired.
He enjoyed golfing (even though it frustrated him to no end), his bowling league, meeting up with his buddies regularly, watching sports and tinkering with and repairing anything he was able to.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and watching his great grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his grandson Draven who he always was a father figure to and helped raise.
Our dad was a humble, compassionate, funny, strong and ethical man. All the good things instilled in us, came from him. He was an extraordinary father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and person. We will all miss him beyond words.
Survivors include his son Aaron Steele, daughter Carissa Steele and partner Andrew Biberos, grandson Draven and partner Ami, granddaughter Kylee, great-grandchildren Giovanni and Naelani, brother Jerry (Pauline) Steele, sister-in-law Dorothy Steele and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth (Kenny) and numerous extended family and friends.
