Morris S. Tyson, Sr. was born on October 22, 1941 in Houston, TX, the beloved only son of Dr. Arthur and Arla Tyson. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2024 at his home in Georgetown, TX after a short illness. Morris was a retired commercial insurance agent who had also been an auto dealer and chauffeur.
He is survived by his son Morris Tyson II (Jessica), daughter Melodee Ryan; grandchildren Jacqueline Tyson (Schweitzer) and Mason Ryan; great grandchildren Presley Schweitzer, Jameson Schweitzer, and Colt Schweitzer; and cousin Thomas (Nancy) McClendon, as well as many lifelong friends whom he loved deeply.
Morris served with the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Cambodia. He loved Southern Gospel music, classic cars, and traveling the highways of the American west. He had a great fondness for the iconic Route 66 and maintained a large network of friends through his interest in all things Route 66. His memberships included Crestview Baptist Church of Georgetown, TX, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
There will be a graveside service with military honors at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX on October 14th 2024 at 3:00 PM. The family is very grateful to Choice Hospice Care, Visiting Angels, and Crestview Baptist Church for their care and support during Morris Sr’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, Morris Sr requested that you consider a gift in his name to the Dr. Richard Jackson Chair of Biblical Preaching and Church Evangelism at Howard Payne University, Morris’ alma mater.
