Linda Mae Copt of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully on September 17th. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, including extended family, the highly skilled and caring doctors and nurses at St. David’s Georgetown hospital, and the loving Sun City community.
Linda was truly one of a kind. She lived her life with humility and common sense, always exhibiting a caring heart, gracious soul, and beautiful smile that won the trust and hearts of all she met. She was born to the late Kenneth and Helen Tucker in June of 1945, in Osage City, Kansas. She grew up in a loving and hardworking family with 10 brothers and sisters in the Presbyterian faith. She exhibited her life-long work ethic early both at home and in high school, working at Priscilla’s Dress Shop and Forren's Restaurant in Emporia, Kansas. Linda graduated from Emporia High School in 1963 where she was a member of the Spartan Pep Club, Homecoming Queen Court, and excelled in Home Economics. After graduating high school, Linda attended classes at Emporia State University. She then moved to Topeka, Kansas where she lived with her oldest sister, Elaine, and her family while caring for her niece, Diana, and working as an Executive Assistant for Southwestern Bell.
In 1966, she married the love of her life, Eric Copt, after his honorable discharge from the United States Navy’s Submarine Service. During their early marriage, Linda continued her work at Southwestern Bell while receiving her PhT degree (putting hubby through school), as documented in a certificate signed by the President of Pittsburg State University that Eric lovingly presented to Linda on the day of his college graduation. Eric’s 30-year career with Gulf Oil and Chevron Corporation’s Mining Division took their family to many cities across the United States, including a two year stay in Venezuela.
Linda was a devoted wife and was always game for the next travel adventure no matter where it took them. In addition to raising her two daughters, Linda was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, and had the ultimate green thumb. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, and softball. With each move, she made their house a home, formed special friendships, and engaged in her various communities both working and volunteering at her daughters’ schools, churches, and local charities. Linda converted to Catholicism in 1976 and continued to be active in the church with the entire family throughout their many moves.
Linda and Eric spent the last 18 years in Sun City, Georgetown where Linda was very active in the Women’s Golf Association and loved spending time with her special weekly golf group, the Dixie Darlings. More than just a golf group, the Dixies were Linda’s special friends who have spent the last several years celebrating and comforting one another through life’s milestones. She continued to enjoy other hobbies during her retirement years but her favorite pastime by far was spending quality time with her grandchildren, children, extended family and dear friends. Her influence will have a lasting impact on their lives by the selfless and loving lessons she taught and character traits she displayed.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Tucker, and siblings Robert, Charles, and Elaine. Survivors include her siblings Erma, Richard, James, Jeanette, Elizabeth, and Sharon; her beloved husband of 51 years, Eric Louis Copt, as well as two children and five grandchildren; daughter Thresa Copt Nasi and husband Mike Nasi, and their children Ella (17), Anna (15), and Wilson (12) of Austin, Texas; and daughter Susie Arbore and husband Lieutenant Colonel Jay Arbore (USAF) and their children Sophia (12) and Tucker (9) of Puyallup, Washington.
A memorial service for Linda will be held on Friday, November 17th at 2:30 pm at the Worship Place, 811 Sun City Boulevard in Georgetown, Texas. A celebration of Linda’s life for family and friends is also planned, details to be announced.
