Janie Sue Giddens

Janie Sue Ray was born December 28, 1940, in Liberty Hill, Texas. She met the love of her life Roger Kenneth Giddens in 1957 when he crashed her 17th birthday party. They were married on February 28, 1959, and celebrated 64 years together a few days ago.

At the age of 82, Janie was embraced by her heavenly Father in her new home on March 6th, 2023, after a battle with an aggressive form of Parkinson's disease.

In heaven, she joins her beloved parents Lester and Mamie Ray; in-laws DD and Virginia Giddens; Five sisters – Alice, Margie, Dorris, Ruth, their spouses, Otis, Wilburn, Chuck and a baby sister who died at birth; Three brothers- Clyde, Wayne and their spouses, Ruby, Betty and baby brother Lester, Her Son-in-law Ben Goodwin, great-grandson Tiny Hollingshead and many other friends and relatives that she loved and has missed dearly. On February 26th, 2023, her last surviving brother, Morris, also joined those who welcomed her home.

She is survived by her love, her husband Roger; Three daughters-Peggy Goodwin, Teresa Orozco (Jesse), Donna Hernandez (John), and son Kenneth (Kay); Twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Candace Goodwin, Michelle Smith (Asa), Shannon Orozco (Jefferson Hollingshead), Shawn Orozco, Ashlie Garcia (Thomas), Anna Ortega (Ricardo), Andrew Hernandez (Morgan), Anthony Hernandez, Eva Reid (John), Katy Purvis (Conner), Derrell Giddens and Beau Giddens Twenty-three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Thomas, Jesse Joe (JJ), Makayla, Johnathon, Samuel, Serena, Jaxson, Annabelle, Rozuhlee, Phoebe, Abigail, Aleph (Jakob), Elora, Lilah, Tristan, Shannon Ahrie, Sara, Austin, Alijah, Alivia, Micah, Riley with two more on the way. She is also survived by her sister Martha Butler (Dennis). sisters-in-law Joanie Tuttle and Shirley Schneider and brother-in-law Butch Giddens, too many beloved nieces and nephews to list and so many friends that she loved as her own.

Janie was a faithful member of Promiseland Church for over 60 years, only missing service when her body wouldn’t allow. And yet, when she was home bound, she would watch and participate in on-line services. As a Sunday School teacher, she taught many generations of children the love of Jesus. It was her joy and pleasure to be involved in many Christmas and Easter productions, fundraisers and any other events held at World of Pentecost/Promiseland. Janie also served her community faithfully as an employee of the Internal Revenue Service for 25 years, retiring in 2005 to take over care of her aging mother.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed globe-trotting with family and friends; Never missing an opportunity to enjoy God’s creation. As the matriarch of our family, we were all blessed to be under her care – whether she was our sister, our wife, our mother, our grandmother or our great-grandmother. She will be tremendously missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests non-flowering plants as Roger is allergic to many flowers or to consider making a donation in Janie’s name to the Promiseland Legacy Fund at www.promiselandchurch.net/legacyfund .

A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden-Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 on Sunday, March 12, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Janie's homegoing celebration will be held at Promiseland Church, 1504 E 51st Street, Austin, Texas 78723 on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:00 am. This service will be livestreamed on the Promiseland Church Facebook page, found at https://www.facebook.com/Promiselandatx. At Janie’s request, a private burial will take place at a later time.
