Garth Willingham was born November 25, 1936 on a family farm near the small west Texas town of Brownfield. After attending school and working in the oil fields for a short period of time, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in early 1954. He remained on active duty for the next thirty plus years retiring in 1984 as a Command Chief Master Sergeant. His Air Force career took him around the globe several times. In addition to his stateside assignments, he also served in Europe, The United Kingdom, Africa, Asia and the Near, Middle and Far East. Garth is a Vietnam veteran, having served one year tour of duty in that conflict.
After retirement from the Air force, Garth was employed by the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) in Germany working in American Grade and Middle schools until 1996 when he once again retired to his Texas roots.
Garth and his wife of 60 years have made their home in Sun City, Georgetown since 2003.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edith Maria Paletschek of the Czech Republic; son, James Willingham also of Sun City, Georgetown; daughters, Linda Willingham of Lipan, Texas and Christina Ladyko of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Katrina and Brooke; two grandsons, Cole and Daniel; two great grandchildren, Cohen James and Skylar Leigh; sister, Leah Monroe of Tacoma, Washington; and brothers, Gene Willingham of Maple Valley, Washington and Gary Willingham of Grand Isle, Louisiana.
A visitation with a reception will be from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the chapel of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Garth will be laid to rest in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors following the service at 1:00 P.M.
