David L. Skinner, an entrepreneur and long-time resident of Georgetown, TX, died peacefully at home with his family on May 25, 2018. In 1976, he moved his family to Georgetown to startup a company called Tessco Electronics, once the largest employer in Williamson County. Over the years, Dave founded many companies in Georgetown, notably STI guns, which soon came to be known and marketed worldwide. Dave leaves a big impact on the city, the industry, and on the thousands of people he has employed and labored with for many decades.
Born in Greenridge, MO on May 06, 1943 to Bernard W. and Anna H. (McCampbell) Skinner, Dave was most passionate about creating businesses, establishing lasting friendships all over the world, and competitive sport shooting. He was a lifetime member of USPSA, IPSC, and the NRA.
Dave married Shirley Ann Williams on March 04, 1977, and theirs was a powerful marriage that lasted up until her death on May 16, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his father, Bernard. He is survived by three sons; Robert, Russell and his wife Elke Skinner, and David James (DJ) and his wife Kristen Skinner; seven grandchildren, Justin, Brett, Travis, Erich, Austin, Ava, and Alexa; and one great-grandchild, Iris Octavia Skinner. He is also survived by Morgan McLaughlin, whom Dave considered to be a member of his family.
Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX. The funeral will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Georgetown, where he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife.
