Vola Ilene Campbell Brown, age 87, a music lover and talented pianist, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Vola’s favorite song was Liebestraum by Franz Liszt. She played it frequently on the piano when her children were younger. She loved music, teaching the piano (into her 30’s or so) and teaching school. Vola retired after 40 years of teaching in the Gaston County School System where she was a well known mathematics teacher.
Of all of her accolades, Vola is Best known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Those left to cherish Vola’s memories are her two sons and daughter in law: Blon Dean Brown, Jr and wife Sheri of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kevin Campbell Brown of Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren: Scott, Michael, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Sarah and Elizabeth; one sister and brother in law: Gladys and Ted Suffridge; two brothers and sisters in law: Bob and Joyce Campbell, Lyle and Barbara Campbell.
Vola was the daughter of the late Glen Campbell and Mabel Garlow Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Blon Dean Brown, Sr. who passed away in 1999.
Graveside and committal service will be held 1:00 PM ~ Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Hollywood Cemetery, 540 North Broad Street, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend David Christy to deliver words of comfort to Vola’s family and friends. A eulogy will be given by her son Kevin Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be given to First United Methodist Church Choir Fund, 190 East Franklin Blvd, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054.
