Virginia Nell Sorrells Laws, age 89, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Peak Resources in Gastonia, North Carolina. Virginia was described by her family as a home body and very somber mom. She was raised to be practical with her time and money. They could always depend on their mom to be honest with her opinion as mom's tend to be. Virginia worked until she was 74 years old and retired from Smyre Mills formerly Carolina Mills in Ranlo, North Carolina. She loved her family only the way a mom could love and will be greatly missed by them and her friends.
Those left behind to cherish and carry on Virginia's memories and legacy are her two sons and daughters in law: Gary and Karla Laws of Belmont, North Carolina, James and Melissa Laws of High Shoals, North Carolina; two sisters and brother in law: Joann and June Patterson of Belmont, North Carolina, Helen Safrit of Cramerton, North Carolina; one brother and sister in law: Louis and Margie Sorrells of Bessemer City, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Sonja Cole and husband Kenny, Michael Laws and wife Audrey, John Laws, John Hardin and wife Dawn, Carrie Deal and husband J.D.; six great grandchildren: Madison Hargett, Rebecca Bogart and husband Ryan, Zack Cole, Rachael Cole, Matthew Cole and Toni Gordon; one great-great granddaughter: Rylee Bogart; one great-great granddaughter on the way! Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Virginia was the daughter of the late Otis Sorrells and Eula Tennant Sorrells. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Jerles Edgar Laws who passed away in 1980. Also preceding her were two sisters and two brothers in law, Frances and Lee Royston, Betty and Noel Sewell, Dewey Safrit.
