“Our Dad was one of those special men, who truly knew what life was about; who demonstrated that his family came first, for his actions left no room for doubt.” These words only begin to describe the devotion Richard Troy Brittain showed his family. Richard passed away Wednesday April 6, 2016 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Richard was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather. He loved his tinkering and fixing things. He was a country music, football and Wake Forest University fan. Richard was a proud alumnus of Wake Forest and lifelong supporter of the Demon Deacons. His life was devoted to serving others – especially his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years; Joyce Cathey Brittain. Also preceding him in death are his parents Talmadge Troy Brittain and Gertrude Hester Cothran Brittain.
Those left to cherish his memories are his two sons and their spouses Keith Brittain and wife Laura of Pineville, North Carolina and Wayne Brittain and spouse Bob Tucker of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Missing their grandfather will be Allison Brittain, Sean Brittain and Sarah Brittain.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be 10:00 AM Saturday April 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 235 8th Avenue, Cramerton, North Carolina.28032
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Offering words of comfort to the family and officiating at the service will be the Reverend David Julen.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church, 235 8th Avenue, Cramerton, North Carolina 28032.
