Rachel Galyan Black, 89, of Cramerton, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday July 23, 2017. Rachel was a resident of Gaston County since childhood. She was a long time textile employee, working in Cramerton and Belmont. Rachel collected many small angels which reflected her faith and her devotion to the Church. She attended Cramerton Free Will Baptist for many years, and more recently attended Riverside Baptist Church and was active in the Sisterhood.
Rachel was the daughter of the late Mena Rankin and Herman F. Galyan. She was preceded in death by her son David Black.
Left to cherish her memories are her son Gary Black and his wife Deborah Moore-Black of Clover, SC, her brother Joe Galyan of Cramerton, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Rachel will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday July 29, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Pastor Steve Hicks from Riverside Baptist Church will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Committal will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Rachel’s name to The American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1105, Chicago IL, 60601 or www.lung.org.
