Peggy Gean Walls

Peggy Gean (Gunter) Walls, 89, of Gastonia passed way in Lincolnton on Friday March 29, 2024. Peggy was born in Concord, NC on May 4, 1934 to Jennie Bell (Blackwelder) Gunter and Connie Gunter. Peggy was a telephone operator for multiple phone companies throughout the years. She got a job as a telephone operator wherever she went. She lived in multiple places because she served as the spouse of an active duty Air Force airman. After Peggy lost her husband, she stayed active. She volunteered at CaroMont Hospital in Gastonia for over 29 years. Her family says the Peggy was always responsible for making the dressing for family holiday meals. Peggy loved gospel music. Her family will also miss her Orange Juice-Coconut pie. Peggy was small in stature, but big in the impact she had on her family, friends and community. She leaves a big hole in many people’s lives. She is truly missed.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband David Lee Walls and daughter, Sandra Denise (Walls) Pate. Her sisters, Jackie Honnicutt, June Hagans and Patricia Gunter as well as brother Sylvester Gunter have gone on before her.

Peggy leaves behind her son, David Walls and her two grandchildren, Kara (Walls) Whisnant and Darin Walls and his wife, Amber. Peggy’s legacy includes two great-grandchildren, Gary Lee Walls and Alexandria Hope Whisnant and a third great-grandson, Jaxson Walls who is due to arrive in August.

The family plans a graveside service and committal at 3:00 pm on Wednesday April 3, 2024. The burial will be in the War Memorial Garden of Gaston Memorial Park at 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1:30 pm, at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Reverend Ronnie Suggs will officiate
