Darlene worked 21 years for Ithaca Inc. in Gastonia and remained there until the doors shut in 2000. In 2001, she began working for the City of Gastonia Police Department, as a Police Records Specialist. She did a variety of task and she was instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the department. Darlene loved her job and her co-workers. She took much pride in being part of such an extraordinary group of people. She felt loved and truly appreciated by all of her work family. She was friends with them in and out of the office.
Darlene was also known for her volunteer work. Over the years she has contributed to a handful of causes. She volunteered her time to work telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was a volunteer for the Hospice Aids Chapter, caring for dying AIDS patients. In addition, she volunteered for Hair-A-Thons that provided Wigs for Kids. Nancy will be missed by her family, her friends, her co-workers, neighbors and all that knew and loved her.
Preceding Darlene in death are her husband, Stephen Wade Clark, her mother Patricia Conard Wheeler, brother Roy Conard and her grandmother who raised her, Mary Lou Conard.
Darlene leaves behind her four children, Son & Fiancée Charles Bramwell & Melinda Ladd of Bessemer City. Anita Bramwell of Dallas, Chastity Bramwell of Gastonia, Daughter & Son in law Amber & Scott Holbrook of Maiden. Missing their grandmother are her four grandchildren, Austin Bramwell, Riley Bramwell, Landen Bramwell and Rowan Holbrook. She also leaves behind sisters, Wanda Gibson and partner Donald Lawing of Lincolnton; Sister and Brother in Law Gelinda & Brett Robinson of Indianapolis, Indiana and brothers JR Byrd of Dallas and Terry Wheeler of Mt Holly. Uncle and Aunt Jack and Trudy Conard and family of Charlotte. Aunt Sue Brandon of Belmont. Many cousins through the family and best friend Sandra Mayberry of Bessemer City.
A service celebrating Darlene ’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday February 9, 2022 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friend before the service from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Reverend Jacob Pierce of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church will be the officiant.
