Mary (Stewart) Black, 93 of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Saturday Morning, February 10, 2024 at Gastonia Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was the co-owner and operator of R.O.’s Barbeque. She continued to run R. O’s after her husband passed away in 2021. Mary was active in her church, singing in the choir until she was physically unable to attend church. Mary was independent until the end. She managed her own affair and she lived independently into her 90’s. Her family, friends, church, neighbors and all that knew and loved her will miss Mary.
Her husband, Loyde Black and her son, Doug Black, precede Mary in death. Her grandson, Matt Black, has also gone on before her. She is daughter of the late Kate (Navey) Stewart and Benjamin Crawford Stewart. Her sisters, Betty Grigg and Louise Carpenter and brother, Ben Stewart, have also predeceased her.
Left to cherish their memories of Mary and to carry on her legacy is her son Robert Black. Missing their grandmothers are her grandchildren – Philip Black and his wife Jessica, Brian Black and Lance Black. Mary’s legacy includes five great-grandchildren. Her sister Doris Pace is grieving the loss of her sister.
A private committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday February 15, 2024 at The Mausoleum of Peace at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Pastor Dickie Spargo of City Church, in Gastonia, will officiate the committal.
