Mrs. Margarette (Marge) Williams, 95, of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday the 28th of August 2016 following a brief illness. She was born on January 14, 1921, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late James McManus and Beulah Mae McManus Cunningham. Her parents and her brother, Jim McManus, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Ronald, her daughter Linda, her grandchildren, Jennifer and Ronald; her great grandchildren, Glenn, Stella and Noah, her brothers John and Sam, and her sister, Betty, and many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends.
Glenn Williams, her late husband, with the support and love of his wife, developed Gaston Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest. She loved many. She encouraged others to excel, both in work and life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and sister. She dedicated herself to helping those she loved reach for the clouds. She was an adventurer, a sportswoman, cared deeply about her family and friends.
She was a championship golfer, a member of the Gaston Women’s Club, Garden Club and many other civic organizations. She and her husband joined the First Baptist Church when they move to Gastonia in 1946, and remained members for a lifetime.
Her greatest adventure was a 79-year love affair with her husband. She was
dedicated to his happiness and success until to the day he died. She participated fully in the excitement of a life lived fully. They danced, belly-laughed, played, worked, suffered and transcended together. Their relationship had the makings of a 1940’s Hollywood movie with suspense, hardship, comedy and redemption.
Friends will be received at Carothers Funeral Home at 5:30 until 7:00 pm on Wednesday 31st of August. Her memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday September 1, also at Carothers. The entombment will follow immediately at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to SAFE of Transylvania County, PO Box 2013, Brevard, NC 28712. SAFE works to prevent domestic violence, and was Marge’s favorite charitable organization.
