John proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
He worked at Rex Mills, Westvaco, Garlock, Fiber Controls and then CMPD Animal Control until his retirement.
John was a past member of Lowell Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion-23, Gaston Honor Guard, Disabled Veterans, Ranlo Fire Board of Directors, and the NRA.
John was a member with the Ranlo Fire and Rescue for 19 years and served as Fire Chief for six of those years.
He also held the position of Ranlo Town Commissioner for two terms.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his two brothers, Clyde Dellinger and Jimmy Dellinger.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Dellinger; son, Tommy Dellinger; daughter, Candy Womble and husband Dwayne; grandchildren, Jeremy Womble and Faith Dellinger; brother, Wayne Dellinger and wife Kathy.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 pm at Gaston Memorial Park. The Army and Gaston Honor Guard will render military honors.
