He graduated from Ashley High School and received an Associate's of Applied Science from Gaston College.
Artie was married to Ruth E. Summey on March 2, 1968.
He had a career in Electrical Contracting and was Owner and Operator of AJR Electric.
Artie started as a Marine and retired as a Senior Chief from the US Navy. As a Marine, he served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart.
He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia.
Artie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth E. Summey; son, James "Jamie" W. Summey; and sister, Sara McKinish.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Monday, August 29, 2022 at First Assembly of God in Gastonia with the funeral beginning at 2:00 pm. A committal service with Full Military Honors will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
