Charles Eugene Camp, 96, passed away Thursday January 31, 2019 at home. Charles is a WW II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps. He was proud of piloting a P-47. Charles’ focus was on his home and family. He was a veracious reader, reading every day. He enjoyed playing ping pong and pool. Professionally he was a salesman in the packaging industry. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Charles is the son of the late Mary (Gardner) and James Eugene Camp. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years – JoAnn (Hazeltine) Camp. A daughter, Susan (Camp) Welch and a sister, Margaret (Camp) Harbinson also preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy are his daughters: Lynne (Camp) Bumpass and husband, Mickey of Juliette Georgia, Deborah (Camp) Boas and husband, Arthur of Toronto, Canada, Valorie (Camp) Bandoly and husband, Paul of Gastonia, North Carolina and Denise (Camp) Cannon and husband, Jay of Columbus, Georgia. Missing their grandfather are: Marcus Coyle, Kenneth Bandoly and wife, Leah, Jamie Smithwick and husband, Grant, Amanda Flores and spouse, Jessica, Daniel Bandoly and wife, Aryn, Charles Szabo and wife, Christy, Alyse Butler and husband, Brett, Alex Boas Archer, Brooke Mercer and husband, Derrek, Dustin Sasser and wife, Aliksandra, and Scott Boas. Charles’ great-grandchildren are: Nikki, Haylee, Olivia, Nate, Graelyn, Liam, Madelyn and Trevor. Charles leaves behind his sister Dawn (Camp) Hurley of Elgin, Illinois. Nieces and nephews missing Charles are: Nancy Harbinson, Jim Hurley and wife, Yulia, Shawn Hurley and wife Diane and Eric Hurley and wife Johna.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday February 8, 2019 at Grace Community Church, 4333 Fortson Road, Fortson Georgia. The family will have light snacks and fellowship following the service and prior to departing to Ft. Mitchell for the committal. Pastors Clayton Chesser and Ron Gibson will offer words of encouragement and hope to those that gather to remember Charles.
Committal will follow at 2:30 PM (Eastern) at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama 36856. The United States Army will provide full military honors during the committal service. Charles will be laid to rest next to his dearly departed wife.
