Betty Toler, a devoted prayer warrior, esteemed leader of faith, and loving family member,
passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on July 15,
1942, in Caswell County, North Carolina, and spent most of her younger life in Danville, Virginia.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Ernest “Sonnie” Toler, and
her parents, Harry Thomas and Lillie Mabe Robertson. She was also preceded in death by her
brothers: Harry Jr., Billy, W.J., and Frankie D., as well as her sisters: Mary Frances and Robette
Evans.
She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Terry Brooks; her adored
grandchildren: Amanda Knight (John), Rebekah Patterson (Chase), and Joshua Brooks
(Allison), and her precious great-grandchildren: Ava, Leeland, Timothy, and Phillip Knight, and
Jack, Emory, Evie, and Lottie Patterson. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Myrtle
Saunders and Donald Robertson (Gloria).
Betty’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated prayer warrior and a revered leader
of faith, she was a pillar of strength and guidance in her church community. Her prayers were a
source of comfort and inspiration to many, and her leadership helped nurture and grow the
spiritual lives of those around her.
A proud employee of Morris Jenkins Heating and Air for over twenty years, Betty was deeply
committed to taking care of her customers and sharing stories with her friends and co-workers.
She is fondly remembered for her work ethic, kindness, and sense of humor.
Beyond her professional life, Betty was extremely proud of her family. Her home was a
sanctuary of love and warmth, and she was known for her generosity She cherished every
moment spent with her family, and her legacy of love and devotion will forever be a part of their
lives.

She was an active member of Union Road Church of God (UR Church), where she enjoyed
teaching Sunday school, participating in worship and prayer meetings, and volunteering with
local charities. Her vibrant spirit and joyful presence made her a cherished member of her
community.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at UR
Church, 2315 Union Road, Gastonia. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. immediately preceding the Celebration of Life service. Reverend Terry Mull will officiate and Senior Pastor, Reverend Lee Claypoole, will have a video presentation at the service.
