Aileen Susie (Morgan) Swayney, 83, of West Cramerton passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Aileen was under the care of Hospice of Gaston County. Aileen worked in textiles for over 45 years. She was a spinner and worked in the card room. Her family says that she was a caretaker. She took care of everybody and if you needed help she would help you. She was a loving woman, but she had a stubborn streak. Her family, friends and all that knew and loved her will greatly miss her.
Aileen has joined her husband, Richard Swayney, in heaven. Richard passed in 2005 after 43 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Julia (Messer) and John Morgan.
Left behind to cherish their memories of Aileen are her daughter Ginger (Swayney) Martin and her husband Jerry of Bessemer City and sons, David Swayney and his wife Julie of Cramerton, Troy Swayney and his wife Cindy of Cramerton and Paul Swayney and his wife Debbie of Bessemer City. Grieving the loss of their grandmother are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Aileen was the only girl in a family of nine siblings. She is also preceded in death by her eight brothers.
The family will gather to remember Aileen from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday August 28, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Family and friends are encouraged to visit during this time to say their final goodbyes to Aileen and to offer condolences and memories for the family. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Aileen’s name to Gaston County Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
