Walton Connell Newton II, age 75, of Gardendale, Alabama passed away on Monday March 16, 2020. Walt was born March 22, 1944 in Evanston, Illinois in Cook County. He was preceded in death by his parents Ramona Mitchell Newton and Walton Connell Newton. He is survived by his devoted wife Evelyn Newton, his daughter Shelise Vance and her husband James, two grandsons Jameson and Josiah Vance. Walt is also survived by his sister Mona Martin and her husband Stan, three nieces Alicia Martin, Laura Volpe (Patrick), Amanda Metcalf (Travis) and one nephew Neil Martin (Jessica). His early years of education were at John B. Murphy elementary in Chicago. He went to Algonquin Middle School and then went on to Maine Township East for Freshman and Sophomore years and Main West for Junior and Senior years. He sang in the Chancel First Congregational Church High School Choir in Des Plaines,Illinois where he graduated in 1961. Walt attended Texas Tech college in Lubbock, Texas where he was active in the Goin' Band from Raiderland, Alpha Phi Omega, Kappa Kappa Psi - national band fraternity; active member of Pioneer chapter S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He held management positions with the Hewlett Packard and Lincoln St. Louis Companies. He worked in security for a number of years. Regions Corporate Security was the last place he was employed and retired in 2008. He was very musically inclined and played several different instruments and also sang with the Birmingham Chapter and in the Harmony Express Barber Shop Quartets for many years. He loved watching the Texas Tech and Alabama football games on TV . Walt had many hobbies including baseball, golf, and gardening and hunting was one of the things he loved. Fishing was a passion and his favorite was being on a island in Canada. He loved his family very much, Jameson and Josiah were the apple of his eye and he spent many hours watching them play.
A celebration of life visitation for Walton will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A celebration of life service will occur Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
Pastor Barbara Trussell will officiate the service.
