Roy Howell

Roy is survived by his beloved Wife Pat, Three Children: Darian (Sara Howell) and Angie (Derrick Wilkerson) and preceded in death by Son, Christopher Howell. Roy is also survived by Seven Grandchildren; Lauren, Emily, Hannah, Lillian, Kayla, Allena, Dawson and Preceded in death by his grandson, Grayson Kent.

Roy was loved by everyone. He always had a warm smile and a joyful heart. He had a servant’s heart. He spent most of his life devoted to youth community sports. He served many roles including coach and umpire. He served in multiple roles as a member of Birmingham Basketball Officials Association for over 20 Years. He is a member of the Birmingham Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame, Dixie Softball Inc Hall of Fame, and Hall of Fame Umpire Inductee.

Roy had a long career at Acipco, retiring after 30 years. He served as Chairman of the Board for the Acipco Employee Association for many years.

Roy began his life of serving with the Alabama Army National Guard in 1966. He served with Honor for 14 years.

Roy (Pawpaw) Howell received many awards and accolades throughout his life. However, his love for his Children and Grandchildren was always the greatest award in life.

Roy’s service to his community, and his devotion to family as Husband, Father, and Grandfather is what molded him into the man affectionately known to all as PawPaw.

A visitation for Roy will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071.
