Noel Donald “Don/Donnie” Moore, Jr. of Fultondale, Alabama, passed away on May 23, 2023 at the age of 77. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Charlotte Moore; daughter, Jill Meredith; grandsons/BFFs, Henry Meredith and Oliver Meredith; sister, Carol Weathersby (Paul); grandkids, Justin Moore, Chase Moore (Tiffany), Zoyee Moore; great-grandkids, Carson Moore and Declan Moore; a host of other relatives and friends including his singing buddy, Sheila Johnson and his sock-angel, Kaylee Hopkins, with whom he had such a special bond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel Donald Moore, Sr. and Evelyn Smith Moore.
Donnie was born in Birmingham and grew up in his beloved West End neighborhood where he made many lifelong friends, who were a great support to him through his cancer journey. He joined Gardendale First Baptist Church over 40 years ago, where he would go on to meet Charlotte in the Singles Group. He loved to tell the story of wooing her with a hot fudge sundae and convincing her to marry him just 7 weeks later.
Don’s life verse was Proverbs 17:22 – “A merry heart does good like medicine but a broken spirit dries the bones”. He loved to entertain crowds (and embarrass his daughter) with his alter-ego, Klutzee the Clown. Many in Gardendale came to know that you could never predict when and where Klutzee might appear with his bag of tricks. Don never met a corny joke that he didn’t like, and one of his proudest accomplishments was passing his silly sense of humor on to Henry and Oliver
Don served his country in the Coast Guard for 4 years and finished his career with the United States Postal Service. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, hiking, working his way through the “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama”, and mastering the art of being a couch potato, never missing an episode of The Price is Right.
Don was especially grateful for the texts, calls, and cards he received from his special friends and family through his cancer journey, the team at Alabama Oncology with Cara Bondly, and his “special angel”, Janice Pilkinton who offered such loving care and stayed by his side until the end.
A visitation for Noel will be held Friday, May 26, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
