Maurice Gilmore, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known for his quiet, gentle soul and deep devotion to his family. Maurice’s love for his family was boundless, and he cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Maurice was married for 50 years to his beloved wife, Carmelita, whom he cared for with unwavering love and dedication for 13 years before her passing in 2017 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a devoted father to his children, a role he embraced with humility and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Frank Gilmore; his son, Dennis Gilmore; his daughter, Donna Gilmore; and his brothers, John and Gordon Gilmore.
Maurice is survived by his children: son Jeff Wallace (Myra), son Greg Wallace (Tanya), daughter Dana Henley (Donnie), and daughter Sherrie Simpson (Murray). He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, all of whom were dear to him.
Maurice worked in maintenance at Montclair Hospital for over 40 years, where his dedication and hard work left a lasting impact. He will be remembered as a man who put family first, who quietly nurtured those he loved, and whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation for Maurice will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Maurice will be laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, AL 35071-2374.
