Jimmy Dale was born in Itawamba Mississippi to William and Nancy Purser. After graduating from Corner High School he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radarman aboard the carrier USS Midway. While in the Navy Jimmy Dale participated in the historic blockade of Cuba known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon leaving military service he was employed at Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 30 years. During his time with the railroad he completed an Associate degree from Jefferson State Community College in Insurance.
Jimmy Dale was a dedicated member of the McCarty Farrar Masonic Lodge #8 and served in the capacity of Worshipful Master of the lodge from 2009-2010.
In 1966 Jimmy Dale met and married Nevis Smith and enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Jimmy Dale went on the have 4 children,Dale (Teresa), Stacie (Scott), Mindy (Dale Barbee), and Ross(Rachel) . Seven grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick (Hannah Bell), Christopher, Austin, Madison, Nicole and Brittany. Six great grandchildren, Laklynn, Luna, Sebastian, Dakota, Wyatt, J.J. and Asher. Numerous nieces and nephews who were beloved like his children and considered Jimmy Dale a huge influence in their lives.
Jimmy Dale was preceeded in heavenly transition by his parents, Brothers, James (Margaret), Travis (Joyce), Robert (Theresa), Trenton, Raymond and John (Cindy).
Sisters, Fay (Clyde), Mary (Robert) and Martha Ann who died in infancy. Jimmy Dale was a fixture and wonderful influence on so many family and friends that it would be impossible to list them. He will be truly missed.
Services will be held at Gardendale Ridout’s on Tuesday with visitation at 10:00 am and funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Flowers will be greatly appreciated.
