Taylor, Jr., Houston, age 83 of Gardendale, AL passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013. He was born in Joppa, Al in 1929 to Urilla and Houston Taylor, Sr. Houston attended Arab High School, graduating with the class of 1949. He then attended St. Bernard College in Cullman, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Louisiana Tech. He later earned a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Sue Hanson Taylor; He is survived by his loving family, his son, Robert Taylor; and a daughter, Ann Taylor Beck of Birmingham; daughter in law, Tammy Taylor of Navarre Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Amber Taylor and Drayton Taylor of Navarre Beach, and Myers Beck of Greensboro, Georgia; his great grandson, Jordan; step sons, Earl Hewett (Debbie), Tommy Hewett(Brenda), John Ford (Robin), and Norman Ford; step daughters, Marilyn Crady (Tony), Carolyn Saint , and Nancy Dryden (Ken); a sister, Pat Thrasher (Donald), as well as a host of extended family members, his church family, and many friends.
Houston retired from Alabama Power Company with over thirty years of service, and was Head of Quality Control .He and his wife were proud members of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church loyally serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Friends will be received at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Tuesday, April 30th, from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 AM. Rev. Leon Zalenski will conduct services. Interment will follow in Arab City Cemetery with a 2:30 graveside service in Arab, Al.
