Fred R. Moore

Fred R. Moore, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Sunday June 7, 2020. Fred was born June 5, 1939. He is survived by his devoted spouse Mr. Dan Self and his children Terri Anita Keener and Christopher Russell Moore. His Grandchildren include Christie A. Densmore, Charles W. Densmore, Frederick R. Densmore, James R. Densmore and Bonnie D. Brazell and his great-grandchildren Ashlynn A. Densmore, Andrew Clemens, and Haley Powell. Fred was a graduate of Phillips High School and served our nation during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. He then transferred from the Army to the Air Force in 1963 and served another 8 years. Then he continued in Civil Service in the Space Division of the Air Force. He retired from Civil Service in 1983 and had numerous accolades and awards during his tenure of service. He had several degrees among them were Associates of Arts - Los Angeles Community College, Associates of Science in Nursing from Wallace State College in Hanceville, Al. where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and upon graduation received the Florence Nightingale Award . Fred spent his retirement years in Birmingham, Al. where he met and married Danny Self. They shared a long and happy union for almost 25 years. Fred was a gifted musician and played several instruments and also served in the Air Force Band while actively serving in the Armed Services. He and Dan loved to travel and made numerous trips to Mexico which was one of their favorite destinations. He was a beloved Granddaddy to 5 grandchildren whom he delighted in and played an active part in their lives. He leaves a huge hole in our hearts and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life visitation for Fred will be held Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a celebration of life service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM. A burial will follow at Mt.Olive Cemetery.
