Among the many friends and family members mourning Doug’s passing are his mother, Sherry Fields Baggett and her husband, Richard Baggett of Gardendale; father, Larry Oden of Cullman; sister, Kelley Oden Marshall; brother-in-law, Keith Marshall; and niece, Emory Marshall, all of Gardendale.
Douglas had a love for sports that began at an early age and often evoked the brilliant smile that he was known for, one that brought out his dimples and reached his eyes. Whether at the Gardendale Civic Center, Mt. Olive BallPark, or the Rockets’ homefield, Doug’s mother and his stepfather, Roger, enthusiastically cheered him on from the sidelines and stands for many years, from childhood through adolescence and into college.
Douglas was a much loved graduate of the class of 1992 from Gardendale High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. Following graduation, he went on to play baseball at Bevill State Community College in Fayette, later transferring to UAB, where he served as pledge educator and mentor for Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
Doug was an avid sports fan off of the field, as well, and was especially enthusiastic about the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Chicago Cubs.
At the time of his passing, Doug was the owner and operator of Foundation Doctors, LLC.
Douglas was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Millie Kelley Fields, and step-father, Roger Sisson. He is survived by his children, Caleb Bray Oden (10) and Kenslee Grace Oden (8), both of Leeds, and son, Connor Douglas Oden (2) of Gardendale.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 24, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, with the funeral service on Friday, August 25, at 11:00 AM, also at Ridout’s. There will not be a graveside service.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsgardendalechapel.com for the Oden family.
