Charles was born on May 14, 1938 in Birmingham and graduated from Ensley High
School in 1956. He married the love of his life, Shirley Guthrie Hightower, in 1959. They
were married for 61 years.
Charles was a Christ follower and a member of East Gardendale Baptist Church. He
loved fishing and spending time at the lake. Charles retired from Southern Research
Institute.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley G. Hightower; son, Jody
(Diona) Hightower of Hoover; grandson, Trevor (Morgan) Hightower of Vestavia and
granddaughter, Alexa Hightower of Hoover; sister Linda (Billy) Flippo of Gardendale;
two nieces, Cynthia (Tim) Stewart and Debbie (Lynn) Hurst; brother in law, Rodger
Guthrie, one nephew, Jason (Sandy) Guthrie and one niece, Lisa Guthrie, and step
father in law, James Shaw, all of Gardendale.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jamey Hightower(2011),
his grandson, Travis Hightower(2017) and his parents T.M. and Willeene Hightower.
The celebration of Charles’ life will be a private family service on Wednesday, August
12th at Ridout's Gardendale. Burial following at Moncrief Cemetery in Gardendale. Bro.
Mark Barber of East Gardendale Baptist Church will officiate the service.
