Juventino Ruvalcaba Romero Sr., Juventino, J.R., Mr. Romero, Tino, was born on May 1,1952 to Angelita and Refugio Romero in Tepechitlan, Zacatecas, Mexico. He had 8 siblings,3 sisters and 5 brothers. Lupe, Amelia, and Ermenia predeceased him. As a boy, he worked on his family farm with his brothers.
As a teenager, he emigrated to San Pedro, CA. His first jobs involved working at the canneries and fixing cars. Juventino made it a point to finish his GED shortly after coming to San Pedro. From there, he learned how to weld and became a welder for Todd shipyard, his favorite job. During the 70's, he played in a band and headlined at local halls in and around San Pedro, even going on to record a record. While playing, he met his future bride, Maria. For three consecutive years they welcomed their children. First, Angela, in 1978, followed by Regina and Juventino Romero Jr. Twelve years after J.R., Emily was born. Maria and Angela predeceased him.
Juventino would help get the kids ready and take them to school. He always came to his kid’s games or events with his camcorder. He took great pride in watching his kids play sports or win achievements at school.
Juventino was a hardworking man, always working on the next project! He helped build a two-story second unit on his rental property. He never stopped working on his truck or fixing things around the house. When his children bought their houses, he helped work on them too.
Juventino's biggest joy came when he became a grandpa. He loved his grandkids dearly and was hands-on with raising them. He was able to help J.R. with his kids almost every day. He was a man of faith and always attended 8:30 mass at Holy Trinity. After church, was Denny's with his kids or grandkids. After that it was playing his guitar and watching CNN. Juventino will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
