Marjorie Louise Dissmore was born on October 31, 1926 in Babylon town, Long Island, New York. Her parents were John and Barbara Miller. She had two older sisters, Mae and Helen. Midge had a difficult childhood. Her mother died of complications due to diabetes when she was only 2 years old. Because her father was a long distance trucker transporting cars across the country, it was impossible for him to raise his girls. The sisters were sent to a children's home for several years where their father visited as often as he could. When John married Helena, her stepmother, the family was reunited and moved to Stanford Connecticut. After receiving a check for his service in World War I, John moved his family across the country to Los Angeles, California.
Midge attended 58th Street Elementary School, John Muir Jr. High, and John C. Fremont High School in Southgate. She married Albert Koepke right out of High School at the age of 18. They were married for only 8 years as Albert died of a heart attack at age 42. They tried to start a family, but after 5 miscarriages decided it was not meant to be.
Through the years Midge did clerical work for various companies. She met her great love and second husband, Larry Dissmore, when they were assigned to the same bowling team. They married on September 19, 1976 in Huntington Beach, California where they spent the rest of their lives together. Larry and Midge had been married for 41 years when he passed in 2016. They loved attending Elk's Lodge activities together, camping with the Elkenders, playing in bowling leagues, and line dancing with friends. They were very close to Larry's sister Mitzi's family, the Chapmans. Midge and Larry were always part of all their family holidays and celebrations.
Marjorie, Midge, Aunt Midge, Midgie, Margie, were the names she answered too. She loved her nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She loved socializing with friends from the Emblem club, Elk members, and her bowling buddies. Midge had the most wonderful neighbors. They all looked out for her and cared for her like family. Pat and Augie were not only neighbors, but lifelong friends. Their daughter, Misty, was Larry and Midge's beloved goddaughter. Brenda Yates was truly Midge's best friend throughout the last several years. Together, they survived COVID, raised money for the Emblem club scholarship fund, played bunko and cards, and volunteered together. Brenda, was a loyal and caring friend who supported Midge until her passing.
Marjorie was an outspoken, funny, smart, and fiercely independent woman. She bowled twice a week until she was 93, drove until she was 95, and lived independently until just a few months before her death. She died on February 26, 2023 at the age of 96 from the debilitating effects of congenital heart failure and a stroke. She will truly be missed by all, but will finally get to join "her Larry" in heaven.
