Anna Floriene Hauck Sheridan Odell was born to Effie May Hauck and John Roscoe Hauck on February 18, 1925 in Delphos, Kansas. She passed away on June 10, 2019 at the age of 94 in Garden Grove, California.
Anna grew up in Delphos, Kansas where she attended elementary and high school. After graduation from high school in 1943, Anna married Joseph Sheridan while he was stationed with the Navy in Washington State. Anna was Joe’s devoted wife and partner throughout his long Navy career. Anna and Joe were blessed with a large family of six daughters. They raised their daughters on and off Naval bases around the globe creating lifelong friendships with both Navy families and local families. The Sheridan family was based in Kwajalein in the South Pacific, Washington State, Japan, Kansas, Newfoundland, and Georgia. Even though she had a bustling home, Anna also stepped out into the working world. She worked as office secretarial support for the military, a hospital medical aide, and a retail salesperson for both Sears and JC Penneys. After Joe’s retirement from the Navy, she worked as a Supervisor for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She and Joe had a wonderful 34-year marriage before Joe’s untimely death in 1977.
Anna met Robert Odell on a Sierra Club trip and they married in 1980. After Anna retired from Liberty Mutual, she and Robert enjoyed many more opportunities to travel with the Sierra Club. They traveled throughout the United States as well as Europe, South America, and Nova Scotia. Up until her passing, they shared a remarkable 39 years of marriage.
Anna was a beloved grandmother to her 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. She cherished each one of them dearly and prized time spoiling them at her home in Garden Grove above most anything else. Memories of time spent with Grandma will be treasured forever.
Anna was active in her neighborhood where she welcomed all those who lived nearby into her home. She gave of her time to anyone who needed help. She was compassionate and forgiving. She was also generous with her friendship and all of her friends were important to her. She is famous for her pies, her crocheting and her sweet singing voice.
Anna has 5 surviving daughters, Betty Beckmann (Rick) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Linda Tognazzini of Pasadena, California, Patty Miller (David) of Chino, California, Marilyn Eldridge (Ed) of Fountain Valley, California and Janet Sheridan McCree (Joe) of Garden Grove, California. Her daughter Judy Luther (Jack) predeceased her. She is also survived by her sister, Althea Collier, of Shreveport, Louisanna, her sister-in-law, Mary Hauck of Simi Valley, California, sister-in-law, Betsy Hauck, of Bakersfield, California and her sister-in-law, Dixie Sheridan, of Overland Park, Kansas. Her sister, Leota Singer and her 5 brothers, Victor Hauck, LaVerne Hauck, Lowell Hauck, Loris Hauck and Loren Hauck all predeceased her.
