Mary lived a life full of love, grace, leadership and genuine caring for those around her. She was a woman of immense faith throughout her life and until she was returned to her Lord.
She was born on June 1, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to Fred and Emma Link. Mary grew up in Louisville, graduating from Ursuline Academy in 1945. She was employed as a personal Secretary for the president of the Henry Volt company.
She met her first husband, Robert Sauter while they were in grade school and eventually married. They adopted two children, Denise and Fred. Mary and Bob had a long and loving marriage of nearly 50 years before Robert passed away at age 70.
Mary met her second husband, Darrell Thomas soon after when they used to walk with a group at the mall. He used to say that “Mary walked into his life.” They were married and spent twelve loving years together. They loved to spend time walking and talking together and took a few trips. He was a comforting light in her darkness.
Mary is survived by two children, daughter Mary Denise Moomey (James); and son, Frederick Lee Sauter; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A donation to St. Matthew’s Church will be made and Mass will be said in Mary’s memory.
