John F. Thomas

John Thomas was called home Friday August 4th 2023. John was born April 24, 1947 to Virginia Elizabeth Mercer and John William Thomas. He attended Gahanna Lincoln High School where he would meet and go on to marry his high school sweetheart Dodie Marie Thomas. Together they would have three beautiful children. John was a loving and passionate father. John would remain a lifelong resident of Gahanna OH. John retired from The Kroger Company and was the president of The Machinist Union. As a youth he loved running the creek banks of Gahanna, later in life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. John was animal lover who had the gift of captivating any dogs trust and love. Although he had a hard exterior to most, he was remained soft to those he cared about. John was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his mother Virginia, father John, sister Jill Elizabeth Thomas, his sister in law Micki Mason, and his brother in law Larry Mason. He is survived by his wife Dodie Marie Thomas, his children April Michelle Thomas, John Christopher Thomas (Amber), and Rodney Daniel Thomas (Stacey), his sister Joanne Sheets (Rick), and his many nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his grandchildren Kirsten N Frison (Aaron), Alexis M Runyon, Christopher L Thomas, Ava M Runyon, Hannah M Thomas. And his great-grandchildren Henry M and Otto B.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 3pm-5pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 5pm.

John will be dearly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
