John “Gary” Banyay, born July 10, 1940, to John and Doris (McCandless) Banyay in Evans City, Pennsylvania. He passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy (Neely); children, Lisa (Steve) Marek, Chris (Missy) Banyay, and Jeff (Kellie) Banyay; grandchildren, Tyler Banyay, Katie Banyay, Haley Banyay, Jennifer (Bryan) Myers, and Samantha Marek (Mark Nelson); great grandchildren, Colten Myers, Shelby Myers, and Lucia Nelson; sister, Joyce Bogolea, and brothers Ron Banyay and Jim (Angie) Banyay.
Gary graduated from Evans City High School and went to work in the automotive industry, eventually owning his own business, Nu-Trend Mufflers. Gary and his family lived in Johnstown, Ohio, for more than 40 years. He was active in the Johnstown United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He followed all of his children’s activities, especially sports. He assisted as a coach and statistician and was an umpire for many years. He enjoyed watching all sports, but especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gary and Nancy liked to vacation in the Smoky Mountains and Florida, where they had a vacation property at Alligator Park in Punta Gorda for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chestnut Hill Senior Living for their care over the years.
Private services will be held for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to JDRF, Johnstown United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
