Jenni graduated from Bowsher High School in Toledo in 1976 and from Capital University in 1980, where she swam competitively for the university. In July 1984, Jenni married the love of her life, Dale Courtney, with whom she has two sons, Gregory and Mitchell.
Jenni worked for 36 years as a teacher in Gahanna, more than 30 of which were at Goshen Lane Elementary School, where she impacted the lives of hundreds of children in the first grade.
She had a lifelong passion for elephants, liked Peanuts cartoons and enjoyed swapping gift boxes with her sister at holidays and birthdays.
Jenni was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church for many years, volunteering at the Hardy Center and helping to coordinate the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She also volunteered with Gahanna Residents in Need for many years distributing free summer lunches.
Jenni is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ted, as well as her mother-in-law, Barbara Courtney.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 38 years, Dale Courtney; her sons, Gregory and Mitchell; her sister, Nanelle (Lee) Bruner; her brother, Dr. Frederick (Cathy) Bunge; brothers-in-law David (Brenda) Courtney, Doug (MaryBeth) and Den (Beth) Courtney; sisters-in-law Diane (Tom) Mosser, Donna (Craig) Miller and Dawn (Amy) Courtney; father-in-law Paul (Carol) Courtney; and her many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5 from 4pm-8pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. Friends may also gather the following morning at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230 from 9am-10am, with her funeral service beginning at 10am. Pastor Tony Katko, officiating. Services will conclude with interment at Mifflin Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Jenni’s family asks that donations be made in her memory to Peace Lutheran Church for the creation of public book boxes or to the church’s Prayer Shawl Ministry.
