Olan J. Strohschein, age 52, always known to his family, friends, and co-workers as Jay, passed away at his home on Monday, August 22, 2022. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Jay was born on November 20, 1969 in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up on the north end of Columbus and attended Northland High School, Class of 1988. He moved to Gahanna in the mid-90s, where he stayed until the end. He began working at the family business, TNT Equipment Company, in 1993, where he put in 29 years of service working in several different areas, most involving skilled labor. He was a true “Jack of all Trades”.
Anyone that ever knew or worked with Jay would tell you that they will remember him most for his dry sense of humor, and his uncanny ability to make a wisecrack at the most hilarious, and at sometimes most inappropriate times. You can’t think about Jay without smiling or laughing.
Jay loved NASCAR, and was passionate about fast cars and motorcycles, whether it was watching them, building them, or driving them. He was proud to have restored a 1967 Mustang that belonged to his father, that he still had at the time of his death. He was a football fan and loved watching his Buckeyes and his Steelers.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Otto John Strohschein II.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Aly Strohschein of Grove City; mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Tony Valentine of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; siblings, John (Barbette) Strohschein of Gahanna; Jimmy (Linda) Strohschein of Johnstown; Lisa (Mike) Brooks of Centerburg; and Christy (Joel) Baileys of Blacklick; and his beautiful canine companion, Lady. He was everyone’s favorite uncle, and is survived by his nephews and nieces, Danielle (Michael), Jared, Justin, Jessica, Tyler, Layna, Garrett, Claire, Maria, Anne, and George. Great nieces and nephews, Isaac, Mason, Ava, Kaylee, Ellie, and Maia. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers who were like family to him. Jay’s family would like to offer a special thanks and acknowledge his wonderful next-door neighbors, Lisa and Greg, for being his guardian angels these past few years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 11am-1pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTH FUNERAL HOME, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, with a funeral to follow at 1pm. Pastor Ron Lokhorst to officiate. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jay’s name to either The Kidney Foundation of Ohio or OSU Ross Heart Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Northeast.
