James (Jim) Elbert Johnson, 84, of Millersport, OH passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2023. Jim was born to the late Charles H and Elizabeth J Johnson in Columbus. Jim met his junior high school sweetheart, Carol Weed, and they were married on July 19, 1958 at Brookside Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Through their 64 years together they lived in Gahanna and Blacklick, and finally settled down for almost 33 years in Millersport, living on Buckeye Lake. Jim loved lake life, owning many boats and Sea Doos and was always ready to give a thrilling ride on his speedboat ‘Awesome.’ He was a lifelong member of Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Gahanna, where he volunteered untold hours. He had a heart for missions going on trips to Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamacia, Madagascar and Oaxaca, Mexico. Jim was an avid NASCAR fan and felt the sport was never the same after the loss of Dale Earnhardt. He had a lifelong love of cars, so much so, that he sold them most of his life. Jim was a ‘rare’ honest car salesman as evidenced by the hundreds of his repeat customers. Family vacations at Virginia Beach, Topsail Island and the Outer Banks were an annual tradition. We will miss you sweetheart, Dad and Papaw. Jim is survived by his wife Carol Johnson, his sister Elizabeth(Liz) Fender, his son Brian Johnson, his daughter Melissa Wilson, three granddaughters, Cierra Reeve, Asia Cunningham, Dakota Cunningham and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may gather at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast (1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH) Tuesday, June 6th from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Funeral Service will take place at Shepherd Church of the Nazarene (425 S Hamilton Rd, Gahanna, OH) Wednesday, June 7th, visitation from 10:00AM - 11:00AM with the service to immediately follow. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s honor to Echo Hospice of Ohio. 8050 N High Street, Suite 160, Columbus OH, 43234.
