Diane Joy Richards

Diane Joy Richards (Hughes), 84, passed away on August 27, 2023. She was born to the late Walter and Emily (Brill) Hughes in London, Ohio on October 7, 1938. She graduated from Madison Plains High School. She married Joseph Richards in 1957 and together created a wonderful family.

Throughout her life, Diane enjoyed tending to her garden, canning vegetables and making jams, sewing, quilting, reading, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her wit and knowledge, for her love of watching birds and working in her garden. Diane will also be remembered for her kindness to people and great love of animals, especially her Rottweilers Katie and Maggie. Diane happily embraced a simpler life. Her family will miss sharing holiday meals and the “little moments,” like picking, snapping, and canning green beans on hot summer days.

In addition to her parents, Diane is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Richards. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Daniel, Chris, Tim, and Mary; grandchildren Nicole, Cameron, Sean, Robert, and Aimee; great-grandchildren Jorge and Nico Carrero; sisters Linda and Nina; and many other cherished family members and friends.

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5pm-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. Diane’s funeral service will be held at the funeral home the following morning, September 9, at 10am. Services will conclude with interment at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany.
