Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Teanie Mae Morgan Kirkland, 88, Rainbow City, who passed away Jan. 9, 2011. The Revs. Roy Daughtery and Bobby Winningham will officiate. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside.
Mrs. Kirkland was a native of Etowah County. She was a member of McEntyre Baptist Church, Ashville. Mrs. Kirkland was retired from Etowah County Board of Education after 41 years of serving two positions with them. Mrs. Kirkland was a lifelong caretaker, cook and Granny to all. She had a special love for children and special love and concern for all friends on Hood Road for the past 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson Kirkland; daughters, Marie James and Bonnie Staton; brother, Roy Morgan; sister, Elizabeth Daughtery; son-in-law, George Williams; grandchildren, George Thomas Williams Jr., Pansy Michelle Williams and Billy Ray Williams; and a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Martha (Jim) Chambers, Jo Ann Williams, Dustin (Terra) Maton and Jessica Maton; sons-in-law, Tommy James, Steele, and Elmer Wallace, Southside; brother-in-law, Jerry Travis Kirkland; sisters-in-law, Martha Morgan and Ila Mae Kirkland; loved like her own children, Dot (Jack) Williams, Faye Williams; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. And special thanks and love to Elaine Beasley Jones for many years of friendship, help, kindness and love, and special thanks to grandson Keith James for watching over her, and special kindness and love to her nephew, Jerry Kirkland. And a special love for her dog and companion, Riley. He was her love and what kept her going the past 10 years.
Pallbearers are Dan Grant, Alton Hutchins Jr., Roland Beasley, Bobbie McCartney, Vernon Lee, Tim Whitemore, J.D. Robinson and Jason Chambers.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. S.P. Sancheti, Dr. Bryan McGwier and Dr. David Burton. Thanks to Alacare Home Health and Hospice for all their help.
The body will remain at the funeral home through the hour of service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
