Suzanne Kelly Phillips, age 72, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on September 11, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on August 25, 1952, Suzanne was the wife of Dr. James R. Phillips. They shared 44 years of marriage together.
Born in Mobile, AL, she was the daughter of Frank and Elsie Kelly where she grew up and attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. Suzanne and Jim moved to Gadsden soon after their wedding in December 1979.
She will be remembered for her wit, her love of the beach and the joy and pride she found in her children and grandchildren.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Dr. James R. Phillips; her children, Lisa Brown (Jeff), Joey Spafford (Kelly), Vicki Kirk (Stephen), and Jamie Ann Rennick (Chandler); and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Maga” – Lindsey, Elizabeth, and William Brown; Sellers and Bo Kirk; Callan Spafford; and Pete and Theo Rennick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elsie Kelly.
A visitation will be held at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL on Saturday, September 14th from 10am-12pm where friends and family are invited to visit and share cherished memories. At a later date, the family will have a private celebration of life at her favorite place, the beach.
The family would like to thank her caregiver, Sha-lee Regling for her care and friendship along with Home Instead Senior Care and ProHealth Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
