Roy grew up on a farm on Lookout Mountain where he began plowing with a mule and picking cotton at the age of 9. This love of farming continued for his entire life. He loved cattle farming and raising produce. His family moved to Owls Hollow in the early 1940’s where he married the love of his life, Nadine Griggs Glenn. He and his wife raised their five children teaching them the importance of God, family, hard work and love of their country.
Roy attended Gaston High School and then enlisted in the Navy, where he served during the Korean War from 1950-54. He was stationed in Jamacia and Greenland as an EN-2nd Class. He served as Engineman and on the Underwater Demolition Team “AKA Frogman.” He was a proud veteran and loved his country.
Roy worked as a self-employed contractor for Sears and Roebuck and a cattle farmer for over 40 years. After retiring he spent the rest of his life as a Master Craftsman completing wood working jobs for individuals and participating in the Carpenters for Christ Ministry.
The love of his life was spending time with his wife, children and extended family. His door was always open to welcome friends and family. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan. He was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church for over 30 years. This church brought great joy to his life.
Throughout his adult years he was an avid Black Powder and Bow Hunter. He enjoyed Fa So La “Singins” and Quartet Music. He had a great interest in Glenn Family Genealogy Research and Family Reunions. Camping was also a favorite past time where he treasured time with his family. His profound joy was “Family Sundays” where his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered after church to enjoy cookouts, games, creek wading and sharing our lives full of love for each other.
