Funeral services for Robert James Vickery, age 89, of Southside will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Sam Fordham will officiate. Burial services will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Vickery was born in Savannah, GA but resided in Etowah County for most of his life. He joined the Army at the age of 17 where he completed his education and later taught Chemical Warfare at Ft. McClellan. He was also pitcher for the Military Softball Team and for his local church. He was a member of Oak Bowery Baptist Church. Mr. Vickery was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family greatly, and rarely missed any activities that his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren participated in; he was the best Papa ever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Chisolm Vickery and Lillie Mae Linton Vickery; daughter, Susan Davis; and sister, Irene Daniels.
Mr. Vickery is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Jean Vickery; children, Susan (Rod) Davis; Robert C (Selena) Vickery; and Tina Jean (Bart) Chandler; grandchildren, Todd (Laura) Davis, Brooke (Chris) Rogers, Amber (Brandon) Russell, Lauren (Tyler) Mathis, Tara (Justin) Buckles, and Chad Chandler; great-grandchildren, Avery, Parker, Emerson, Maddox, Lydie, Bo, Daxton, Finley, Addison, Ava Kate and Fisher; and great-great-grandchild, Scarlett.
Pallbearers will be Bart Chandler, Chad Chandler, Todd Davis, Chris Rogers, Brandon Russell, Tyler Mathis, and Justin Buckles.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Vickery and Rod Davis.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society.
We are so grateful to have had such a wonderful earthly father who was a fierce disciple for our Heavenly Father. We were truly blessed to call him “dad.”
The family will accept friends Saturday from 10-11am prior to the service.
