A memorial visitation for Phillip will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Rainbow Presbyterian Church, 3220 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
Phillip Jon Crain, a lifelong resident of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 26, 1941, Phillip graduated from Gadsden High School in 1959, where he met and married the love of his life, Judy Dawson Crain. Together, they shared 66 years of devotion and partnership.
Phillip’s career began as a young boy working alongside his father, delivering tractors and farming equipment across the Southeast. He later joined Pioneer Life as an insurance salesman and transitioned to Republic Steel as a mail deliverer. Through determination and hard work, he rose to the accounting department. After 17 years of service, Phillip pursued a new path in the roofing industry, founding Federal Roofing Company. He successfully ran the business until his retirement.
A devoted member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church, Phillip served as a deacon and found joy in his faith and community. He cherished spending time outdoors—whether on the beach, boating on the river, or playing golf and cards with friends at the Gadsden Country Club.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeff Crain; his brother Ray Crain; and his sister, Carol Crain. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his children, Jon (Pam) Crain, James Crain, Thomas (Tiffanie) Crain, and Jenny Crain (Brent) Means; his grandchildren, Brynn (Mary Catherine), Jake, Ben (Olivia), Gabriel (Payton), Romie, Ellis, Carter, and Harper; and great-grandchildren, McCartney, Beau, Cayson, Eloise, and twins expected in the spring. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to ACG Hospice, especially Misty Patterson, Candy White, Sharon Mabrey, and Slayde Mizelle, for their compassionate care.
Phillip’s legacy of love, kindness, and hard work will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him .
